Hey there: My hubby says, go to his company's website and grab a barcode font and type it out in WordPad. Write your name with an asterisk before and after your name, like this:
*Sally*
Here's the site: www.interbar.com
Good luck!

This wont work anyway as you have to have the barcode put in to the retailers main computer first to set up what the barcode means. Registers only recognise barcodes if they are set up in the main shop computer.
Good luck anyway

barcodes represent numbers - you may chose to represent the alphabet as 01 to 26, 00 for a space - then create a sequence of numbers using this code. the result could be made into a barcode.

There are over 20 types of bar code. The most common (and simple) is "Interlaced 2 of 5". This encodes all numerals and alphanumeric characters. The "encryption" is an algorythm relatively simple that you can find in the ISO standards.

I think that this question should be under technology. There are codes in math, but barcodes were developed with computers.
