HaHa I agree with you...I don't understand it either. I love snakes (actually just held one for the first time this year & thought it was soooo cool!) & so does a female cousin of mine....she actually owns a Ball Python (the snake I just mentioned holding). My guess is that it's due to 'old school' social norms. Girls are apparently supposed to act all helpless & a certain way & guys all manly & a different way. It's messed up! LOL!

I don't think it is something that is "supposed" to be or fear of snakes is something that is only built in to girls. It is one of those innate behaviors/reflexes that is built in all humans, which is by the way for our own protection. I know plenty of guys who are just as afraid of snakes and lizards. Some people just overcome this fear as they get to know particular kinds of dangers, they become more comfortable around them. I mean, they are probably more afraid of us then we are of them.

Because women were supposed to be the weaker sex & needed men to save us. So since the snake has a bad rep from the start (Genesis) it's a good excuse for a man to show his strength & save the poor woman from the mean, nasty snake.

Many people have the mistaken impression that all snakes are slimy and their bite is poisonous. Snakes aren't slimy at all, and only a few snakes that are native to North America are poisonous, rattlesnakes being one. The garden snake (black and yellow stripes) and the garter snake (bright green) that most people see in their gardens are harmless.

It is all in the way that society is trained to react to certain things. We have always been taught that snakes are dangerous or potentialy so anyway. But wouldnt you just love to cuddle a Koala Bear? That cute little thing can rip you to shreds. Its all in our perceptions of things.

I don't think girls are "supposed" to be afraid of snakes. Just a lot are. I love them though. I think they are beautiful animals.

Everyone is different. I'm terrified of skin cancer and that's just me. I don't mind snakes, but I won't go out of my way to be around them. Everyone is afraid of something.
