He was too big to keep at home (4 foot 7), now I'm worried he's going to eat all the neighbourhood pets. I don't want to own up though, should I get my mate to hunt it down and shoot it?

You need to find the snake before he eats anymore cats. This could require you to call animal control for help. Until you find him you should urge your neighbors to keep their pets indoors, perhaps put up posters to notify them that there is a python on the loose, it would be the decent and right thing to do. A residential neighborhood was not the right place to leave this snake. Hopefully you find him, and when you do see if any local petshops will take him, or try to sell him. If all else fails try donating him to a nearby zoo. But do NOT set him free in the wild. He WILL eat small pets in order to survive. I'm sorry, but I think you might have to own up to this....a lesson for the future I guess. Good luck, I hope you find him and find a good home for him!

It's impossible for a 4-5 foot python to eat a cat. End of story. Besides, depending on where you live, wait for winter and it'll die soon enough. Besides, 4 foot 7 is dinky as far as snakes go, how was it too big to keep at home?

You're a tw*t. Don't ever keep pets again, you are clearly irresponsible. And yes, contact a humane society. If you don't want to admit you let it go then say it escaped but I really think you owe an apology to the cat owners. You may not have cared enough about your pet to look after it properly however most cat owners treat them like children and will be devestated that they are missing. Do the right thing and let them know what may have happened - the worst thing is imagining what happened, I know.

First of all, you should have known much better than to let it go in your neighborhood. Second, the snake doesn't need to be shot. What a waste. There are responsible ways to deal with it. Humane Society. Animal Control. 4'7" isn't really that big, plenty of people should be willing to take it. And at 4'7", i doubt that the neighborhood animals have gone missing because of it. A captive bred python would not go for prey any bigger than an adult rat.

1) turn yourself into the legal authorities as letting a python loose "into the wild" is probably illegal & definetly unethical
2) a 4 ft 7 in python is too small to eat adult cats
3) shoot it with what? Private gun ownership is strictly controlled in Great Britain.
4) turn over any other animals you possess to an animal shelter as you are obviously not a compitent animal owner
5)go back to scholl little boy
6) get a life troll!

Ok, take no offense, but you are retarded!!! You do not buy a snake if you don't plan on keeping him when he gets older and larger. You knew when you got him that he would get to 4 ft long and if you didn't you shouldn't have bought him! You could have donated him to the zoo, to a reptile pet store or arranged for someone to buy him from you. I would have loved to buy him from you!! You should call animal control, lie and say he got out and that when they catch him they can put him up for adoption. You are the reason why people don't want people like me to keep exotic and large snakes!!! Never buy a snake again!!!

4 ft 7 inches is not a big snake buddy, and it is not big enough to eat a cat, probably not even a kitten. The snake is probably not even big enough to kill a cat. It would be lucky to get a small rabbit down.

When it eats a child I suggest you walk to the nearest police station and own up.
How irresponible you are to have owned a python in the first place, I hope it walks home and gets you first, how would you like to be hunted and shot.

certain, that replaced right into a mistake. The snake is used to having his nutrition prepared for him, and he's used to being dealt with. with the help of the time any "wild" instincts could kick in, he'd be lifeless from starvation likely. that's like freeing a puppy canines into the wild. they gained't recognize what to do, the position to bypass, or a thanks to outline nutrition.
