I think that women who hate their appearance are just a minority, yes, there are a few out there that don't, but in general most women are quite happy with themselves, I think the ones who have got problems are the type that don't get compliments from their partners, the type of men who never tell them they look beautiful or that they look nice in that dress etc.. The reason Cosmetics and Fashion are a multi billion dollar industry is because we cherish the way we look and buy them, so there is a slight conflict of interest in this question don't you think ?? and as far as men ar concerned its about bloody time, don't you think girls ??

We aren't happy with ourselves BECAUSE of those multi-billion dollar industries! Don't you see what every tv commercial, every magazine ad, every billboard is telling us? They all tell us that WE AREN'T GOOD ENOUGH. We NEED to buy this make up, wear this clothes, use this product in order to be good enough, in order to be attractive enough ,in order to be thin enough. We are not happy with ourselves because we are BRED not to be, it surrounds us everyday if we are aware of it or not. Look at the 10 year old wearing a mini skirt and heavy makeup. Why do you think she's doing that and do you think she knows why?
Eh... I guess that was kind of put harshly... I have strong feelings about this, as I work with teenage girls for a living. Your question is a good one, but there is a lot of psychology and sociology behind it. It goes a lot deeper then women "not being happy". I hope you take this seriously.

we hate our apperance so much b/c if we're just slightly different from what we see on magazines, television, net etc. we feel like we're not pretty, hott, gorgeous like the actresses we see. We idolize them b/c men say they're beautiful and we want to be that. So we try too hard I'd say........... Self confidence in women has dramatically dropped and the media needs to turn this around in my oppinion. I wrote a term paper about this, how the media makes women hate the way they look and I've suffered w/ this as well, worrying too much what others think and what society says is socially acceptable...but I'm getting better slowly but surely and I'm finally starting to see the beauty I've been told I've had for a long time.

Not all women hate their appereance, and not all men hate their appearance either. The main reason I think people spend so much money on beautifying themselves is being media is constantly brainwashing us with skinny models/actors/actresses with flawless skin and perfect teeth. The truth is, they have money, and they can make themselves look gorgeous, but that doesn't make them any different then the rest of us. In the end, we are all human beings and we're all here for one purpose: To live. besides, half of the celebrities out there have no morals.

Hi we hate our appearance so much because we are always comparing ourselves to other women. That we think are thinner or better looking, even though people dont see use as being different we still think it our selves. Its to do with confidence, its like when you feel confident and you just get the courage to wear what other people are wearing even if its not posh or fancy, you can gurantee someone will come up to you and say 'what you wearing that for,' or ' that doesnt suit you' so we then think to our selves we have to change lose weight, change hair colour, different make up, new clothes. etc but it still doesnt work. Also when guys say they like a girl, celeb or someone they see who they think is nice. You look at your self and think hang on a minute i look nothing like her shes better looking, dressed, and almost perfect.and we look nothing like that person no matter how we try. So this is why women hate there appearance so much.

Because women are brain washed by the media and advertising into thinking they must look 'perfect'. These people play on female insecurities; everyone wants to be loved and some women really believe that if they're not 'perfect' nobody will love them, or they will lose their man to someone more 'perfect'. This all starts with young girls' magazines and goes on and on. Not sure about the men; perhaps David Beckham and the media who have promoted him have something to do with that!! ie., if they use a particular deo, after-shave or whatever, they will automatically have more sex-appeal and women won't be able to resist them!! It's all about lack of confidence in oneself.

The media makes me feel like **** about myself. No matter how skinny or how good my hair looks or my makeup or compliments I get, its never skinny/pretty/well dressed enough to meet the high expectations the media has given the deluded men of today.
I saw a commercial for 'guys gone wild' this weekend and told my boyfriend- how would you feel if we were watching tv together every night and that commercial came on 3-4 times an hour? Pretty self conscious knowing your girlfriend is looking at rediculously hot, cut guys for 20 mins out of every hour getting half naked
That is all.

its got nothting to do with that women hate their appearance at all.
i have no hold ups bout my appearance. its what is called fashion. its great to experiment with different look and styles. of clothes cosmetics accesories etc. if we didnt god how boring would we all look.
and the men have to look as good as us women do. lol..so they keep up with trend and fashion too. its what people do...

not all women hate their appearance i don't. i think it's just a phase women go through. we use makeup as a way of expression, especially when you are going out for the night. Same thing goes with clothes

i agree, i think everyone should just be happy. we can tell when people dont like the way they really look, and thats why they look like twice baked, bleached out circus clowns. we know they think something was just a liiiittle bit wrong with their original appearance, when in fact, im sure they looked a lot better before!
