I used to get jealous easily, act like a jerk, insult people behind their backs, etc. But now I really want to change. I'm going to the same school as last year, so it's not like I can start with new people. How can I shed off that negative image associated with me for the new year?

Start with trying to figure out why you act jealous, or like a jerk. Are you insecure about something in particular? Well, so is everyone else in school, but it doesn't give you carte blanche to take it out on others. Just think about how you would like to be treated. Would you look forward to school if someone was always mean to you or spreading rumors about you.

As some have said, it won't happen overnight. Try small changes so people won't think you're being fake or something.

Kudos to you for recognizing negative behavior and wanting to do something about it. good luck!

It will take time, but you need to show people that you are a different person now. Just start by maybe making some small talk. And maybe apologize to some of the people who's feelings you have hurt. That can get you a long way with some people. Once people see that you have really changed your ways, you shouldn't have any problems. Just be careful not to get into any of the same bad habits with any of your new friends!

try to say nice things and commpliment ppl in their face and try to change ur impression. It will be hard but if u really want to do it, u need to put in some effort. When ever u want to insult ppl behind their backs, think twice before doing it! And get a marker pen and scribble on ur hand ' stop acting like a jerk'...
good luck

Try not to listen or start gossip! That is the worst. When you listen to it, you're just as responsible as if you had started it. Try to improve your looks, lose weight or dye your hair or something to make you feel better about yourself, so that you don't feel the need to put down every one else. You can change, it doesn't matter if you are around the same people or not. People will accept the new you.

As they say "Every Journey Starts With a Single Step". Things definitely wouldn't change overnight, but yes, start with simple things such as being nice or maybe by lending a hand, 'cuz if you're nice it always shines through and ppl notice it.
Hope this helps....

Just be nicer to people, and they will either accept you or they won't. It will really depend on the type of reputation you made for yourself, but if you make a sincere effort to be nice, people may just forget about how you once were and begin to like you.
