A contractual agreement for cellular service is a real contract and they are usually for 2 years.

If the person doesn't have good enough credit or income verification to get in their name...how can they pay the contract for 2 years?

If the phone contract is in your name and the person can't pay the bill right - YOUR name gets the negative credit score because of it.

Tell your friend to go buy the "pay as you go" phone with no contract. that way they only use what they can really pay for and YOUR credit does not get messed up.

Having good credit allows you to: get a phone, apartment, credit card, etc.....don't screw it up for anyone!

No because you have to have a credit check to get a post-paid cellphone (monthly plan) and if they run up charges in your name that will hurt your credit rating/score but if it is a prepaid phone you have no harm done because it does not require a credit rating and has nothin gto do with your credit so thay can talk all they want without fear of them ruining your name. My Advice: If they want a cellphone tell them to get one in there name and not yours or flat out tell them do not set one up in your name or there will be charges brought. Did you know that their is also something else to getting a cellphone?? A legally binding contract most carriers it is two years from the date of activation so if the person gets the phone and cant pay it for 2 years then you have to pay the Hefty cancellation fees for them because it is in your name. But with prepaid you have NO Contracts Credit checks monthly bills or any thing of that matter if you really need a cellphone go prepaid.

Beware. Postpaid cell phones with unpaid bills can ruin your credit rating. If someone uses your name it means your credit rating is on the line. I would not do this unless you are quite sure that the person will be paying on time everytime.

Why do they want you to do this? Chances are, you are going to be stuck with the bill. Also, you will be the person who has to make the plan decisions.

One idea would be to get a pre-paid wireless plan. Virgin Mobile offers one for as little as $15 a month. I'm sure there are others with similar rates.

Dont allow anyone to take a cell phone connection and use it in your name. As per rules, you are responsible for all that happens.

NO-if they don't pay it, it messes up your credit which is probably why they want a cell phone in a different name to begin with!

Only if you want to be responsible for the bill and deal with the collection agency when that person doesn't pay.

Plus anything illegal they do with the phone (bomb threat, conspiracy to commit murder, etc.) makes you an accessory.

Unless its like your sister or mother, in which case its OK.
