YES, YOU CAN GET PREGNANT IF YOU HAVE SEX NOW. You need to be on the pill for at least a month (most doctors recommend two months) before relying on the pill to keep you from getting pregnant. If you want to have sex now and don't want to get pregnant, use some other form of birth control.

You say birth control - are you referring to the pill, as there are other forms of birth control. Remember - In order to protect yourself against STDs you shouldn't just rely on the pill unless you are with a trusted partner.
Assuming you are taking the pill, it really depends on the type of pill you are taking. Your doctor should have given you this information when he/she prescribed the pill.
Some combined pills offer protection after you have been taking it for 14 days, others from day one. There is no hard and fast rule here. There should also be a leaflet inside the packet of pills to explain everything. Failing that, ask your doctor. Good luck.

Birth control is not 100 percent effective as it is so there is always a chance of getting pregnant. It decreases if you take any antibiotic or medicines so beware.
It will take several week before you get the full effect that the pill is going to afford you.

It's supposed to take at least a month to kick in properly. If you really aren't ready to get pregnant you should use a condom as well anyway, even when your birth control should be working, well, as much as it will work. At least use a condom for 2 months to make sure. If you're meant to get pregnant you will, no matter how much protection you use, unless you just don't have sex. & how much fun is that? LOL. Just kidding.

Read your package insert; it should tell you exactly how long, based on the type and when you started it, you need to use a barrier method. For instance, with Norinyl and its generics, if you start taking it on Day 1 of your cycle, you don't need a backup method at all; if you start on the Sunday following the first day of your cycle, you need to use a barrier method for the first 7 days. This may be different for the type you're on, but it WILL be in the instructions.

Yes you can! You need to use back up protection for at least the first month if not the first 6 months. I got pregnant when I was only on it for 1 month.

To get complete protection from pregnancy the doctors recommend 3 months, but I would say if you are on it for a month you would be safe. I wouldn't do it sooner than that though because very high chances of pregnancy still.
