It wouldn't hurt to contact your student advisor at the community college. It is their job to answer questions, and probably a good place to start.

You could contact the University directly and ask their advice.

You can email the student services offices with undergrad program inquiries at: undergradatberkeley.edu or you can call undergraduate advisors at 510-643-8114

You can also ask advice from the Department Chair.

Here is a sample letter:

Dear Dr. Stephen Hinshaw:

I wish to pursue a BA in Psychology. I am currently enrolled at __________ Community College and I am interested in transferring to University at Berkeley when I finish my AA degree in 2008. In your opinion, what courses should I be taking now to make my transfer to your school go as smoothly as possible?

Sincerely,
Joe Student

As far as your question about sorting everything out, it is very true that putting together a first year schedule can be confusing. Generally, try to schedule any psychology related classes first, then try to fit your required GE classes around them. Usually, you will only have room for one or two psychology related classes per semester. Statistics, report writing, child development, and behavorial studies are also important in the field of psychology, so look for classes of that nature as well as those offered by the psychology department.

Check to see if the dept has a suggested guideline for what courses to take in what order. Generally speaking, you take lower numbered courses first. At least half of your courses should be gen ed coursesand the rest should be psych courses.
