yes---racism has reared its ugly head--esp w/the recent explosion of Hispanics in this country. I have witnessed it in white and black communities. Regardless of immigration status, racism is not going to save the day.

You know, I am from the South, and so I've had to live around racism, from both sides of the spectrum. It is really sad to see how it manifests itself. I agree with you that there have been some really bad questions on this site. I had the very distinct pleasure of knowing Mr. Ben Chaney, the father of James Chaney. One day he was working for a friend of mine(he was a master mason) building a wall to a garden area. It was lunch time so my friend asked me if I wanted to take him a sand which, I did and I took mine out too. I asked him if he minded if I asked him a question about James and his situation, he said no he didn't mind at all. Here's what I asked and here's what he answered. 1) How do you get over someone killing your child like that? How can you not hate and be full of anger over the situation? 2) He said
first of all I told "that boy" that he was gonna end up dead, secondly, you can't hate people for being ignorant, you just pray for them and hope things get better. He also said, if we would start looking at the inside of people instead of the outside all the time more of us would get along. Wise words from a wise man who had suffered a great loss because of racism but was smart enough to realize that it was a two way street that we all have to walk down.

To be honest be it on a message board or walking down the street people feel they can say anything that they want and with the absence of common social grace and decency, the ignorance of the human population is once again becoming mainstream. How can anyone feel that belittling another person is okay i can not fathom the justification for their actions. I know that racism is not only towards past cultural groups but it is also spreading it's ugly head down the throats of those who were once targets and now they are making targets of those who have made atonement's for their ancestors actions when will the hate stop!!!

The reason it's reared it's ugly head on this site is because the person can remain anonymous. They don't have to be accountable but to a certain degree, and even then they are pushing it. It doesn't matter to them if they are reported because they'll just spout their hatred elsewhere. They only care that they have gotten their message out and made their point.

This is what is to be expected when you have a website like this. A lot of stuff is still getting through regardless of the monitoring that's going on.

i dont get angry about racism, and yes it is a horrible thing. But i believe that most racism comes from a lack of understanding. And i at least understand. I do get angry however when someone shows there racism out lout, as in making rude comments and saying mean things. If you dont have something nice to say dont say it at all, is my motto.

Yes. It is just something that has to be dealt with. You have so many people from so many backgrounds and it's impossible not to come across people who haven't grown up, people who aren't mentally mature.

You can report them, but that doesn't stop them from being offensive. It doesn't stop them from being prejudice. And some of the questions that are being asked, hopefully they are asking them so that they can learn from them.

Racism is everywhere. Sadly it hasn't and won't go away because no matter where you find yourself, there will be small-minded people in your environment. Many humans think nothing of harmony in humanity...notice what other's prejudices are causing around the globe currently.

Of course racism is a touchy subject and some people think that their views are "right," but you just have to let it roll off of your back. The minute you let someone upset you because they are racist they have won the battle. Obviously they have a problem with other races but when you get angry you are now taking their problem and making it your problem, because I know you love who you are, so just don't worry yourself with ignorance!!!! ;)

Do you mean racism on the Yahoo site? I just ignore those remarks, they are people trying to get a rise out of other people.
