I'm constatntly amazed at the number of people (presumably young girls) who keep asking the "could I be pregnant?" questions. I don't know about the rest of the world, but in Canada kids are given Sex Education programs beginning in Grade 5. Is this not true for the US and other countries?
(Girls, you need to start learning this stuff BEFORE you start spreading your legs)

We had a course on puberty and menstruation in 5th grade and a bit on conception and STDs in 7th. But at no time in my public school education was the duration of the female cycle ever discussed in enough depth that any student walked out of the classroom knowing when ovulation and conception can happen. That's how myths like "you can't get pregnant at _____ time in your cycle" happen. And in Texas, kids are taught abstinence-only sex ed, meaning absolutely nothing about birth control and disease prevention are taught. It's appalling, but it's not the kids' fault. How are they even supposed to know how much they don't know? If parents don't step up to the plate and educate their kids where the schools are failing to do so, it's going to keep happening. And if the majority of reasonable Americans don't take a stand against the religious fundamentalists who seem to think that if they don't teach sex ed kids won't have sex, it's going to keep happening.

ya! im amazed too esp when they are all just kids?!

n y is that parents dont teach them? i came from a traditional chinese family, where even the simplest 'i love you' is such a 'shame' to say to your parents n vice versa. where affections n hugging r never expressed?

but comes to this, my mum is the one telling me about 'morning after pill', HIV, condom n protecting yourself.

(for the sake of, jus in case my values have changed (which i did), the only way out is to EDUCATE me.)

n NEVER have sex becoz of peer pressure, or someone force you or try not to have it till u are 20? (or some, 18?)

coz, when u are 13, u think u know everything. n when u reach 15, u think ur parents are so old fashion in thinking. n when u reach 18, u will be gald u didnt lose it to any of those loser ex-bf u had b4. n when u finally come to 21, u will realised how immatured when ur 18 (even though is only 3yrs)..

n i lost it 2yrs ago when im 21. n im gald to listen to my mum that even if i were to lose it, make sure u are already 'mentally mature' (or watever word there is..)

so to parents, if u cant teach, than jus go straight to the point n educate them! (dont bother to teach them how to count. tell them withdrawal accidents happen all the times!)

n to kids, if u cant wait till marriage, at least, do urself a favour by waiting till u are 18-19. n wear condoms! your life starts only much later in your early-mid twenties! u will get to meet the real one out there!

In the US they believe in no Sex Education Classes only a few lessons about sex here and there so kids don't really know what to do. The reason is because some kids parents don't want them to learn about sex.

It would seem their brains were turned off during sex education. This is a common problem, everywhere.

This place should not be used to request advice only a doctor can give.

I am not amazed at all, and believe me a lot of questions are asked by dudes who want to dip Cecil in the hot grease (if you know what I mean) and use this information to tell their targets that nothing will happen and that they are well informed. lol

I DEFINITELY agree with you. When I was younger, I never received this type of education and if I had, it would have benefited me so much later on in my life. This is a great plan to have in the United States. If we had this type of programs in our schools today, we would not have as many girls saying, "Who's my baby's daddy?" I can't say how many times I have heard that in my entire lifetime.

In California we have a sex ed session in 5th grade, then we have a small session in 6th grade, then for like 4 weeks or so in 7th grade then we dont have sex ed until 10th grade when we have it for a quarter which is 9 weeks. But in 5th and 6th grade (for girls anyway) it is more about puberity, then in 7th grade we learn about STDs and such. and in 10th grade, umm i will get back to you after i take it, i will have it either 1st or 2nd quarter this upcomming year

You can blame religious fanatics in the U.S. for ignorant children having sex, getting pregnant at 15, and getting diseases...

I think that children should be taught the positive and negative consequences of sex as early as possible and taught every year to ensure it "sticks."

"Ignorance is Deadly!"

I know that for the USA they start sex education as soon as 3rd grade. So it is not that they are not educated it is just the fact that they just dont give a damn.

No. In the US we don't start getting sex ed until like 7th grade (at least I didn't)
