I am enrolled in an MBA program and I don't know whether I should concentrate in finance or economics or some other concentration. There is no actuarial science or rmi concentration at my school.

Actuarial sciences are a sub section of statistics.

Why arent you taking an actuary degree through the stats (or math) department?

That said make sure you have a good background in statistics and probability.

Actuarial work is not finance its basically risk assessment.

Unfortunate that your school doesn't offer what you really need. I suggest looking at the curriculum of a university that offers an actuarial science degree... by looking at those class offerings, you will be in a better position to select what you should concentrate in. You should be able to check the course offerings online... my guess is your area of concentration will be Applied Mathematics.

There are very few jobs left for actuaries. If you are dead set on that specific occupation, you must transfer to a school that has a Masters degree program in Actuarial Science. If your undergraduate degree is not in mathematics, you will need extensive remedial course work.
