This is all a matter of circumstances. Purchasing WIFI is not specific to the laptop. If you buy time at say an internet cafe, you have access there, but not down the street. If your laptop has wireless, then it is just a matter of what access points you are in range of and if they are secure or not. You can be in your home and get a signal from several neighbors, but depending if their access points are secure or not depends on if you can get internet access.

Yes, But Only If There Is A Wireless Router In Your House Which Would Act As A Hotspot. If You Don't Then You'd Have To Be Near Any Other HotSpot Area.
(Hotspots Are Areas Where You Can Get Wireless Internet)

When you say WIFI service, I'm assuming you're paying for an ISP like America Online, Cox, or Earthlink, etc. You also must have a wireless router installed in your home (which is very easy). Your laptop must have a wireless card (which 99% of new laptops have already installed.)

Not a good idea, unless your neighbors don't mind you hogging in on their broadband. As some others explained, you laptop can be WIFI capable and you can go to any publicly available hot spot and use it, for free or for subscription (like in Starbucks - pay as you go - T-Mobile). You need to have a high speed modem (DSL or cable modem) to run your desktop computer, then you can connect a router to that. Your laptop can be connected to high speed if it is WIFI. Then you wouldn't need to purchase WIFI service.

what are you talking about?
are you talking about the wifi service from sprint PCs or Verizon where you get a card for your laptop for wifi access?
if so yes you can use that card for your home PC on if you get a adapter that will accept pcmci cards into your desktop but you cant use the laptop and desktop together. unless your a network admin then you can share the Internet from your desktop to your laptop.

You can if you get a wireless router that's compatible with your wireless card in your laptop. I heard the best one is the linksys brand one. It's what I use, and I've never been dropped from the line, and it has a pretty good router. Just set it up so that only you and your computers in your house can access it, otherwise you'll have your bum neighbors using your network....especially if you live in an apartment.

if ure talking about a wireless router then yes u will be able to access to the internet and to your own personal network, which u need to setup... get somone to help if u cant. But you will have to get an ethernet card for ure comp if u dont already have one so that u can connect ure comp to the router. For the internet u need a DSL connection (preferably cuz dial up is too slow) and thats it.

You need to have a wireless internet capable laptop, then you need to have a service provider such as comcast, then buy a router, and you can have wireless internet at home. You can have Wireless Internet if you go to a HotSpot such as Starbucks, Borders, Airports or hotels. There's also this service from Cingular that lets you have wireless internet anywhere you are. By using this pc card. Its called the EDGE service, and it lets you have wireless internet, if you have coverage on your phone, then you have wireless internet coverage.

yes , you sure can if you have a WIFI router connected to a modem or ADSL connection. They are quite cheap to buy but I recommend lookign at the Belkin range as they offer routers that expand the 802.11 standard allowing you to have faster connections or wider areas if you like to work in your garden try the 802.11g Wireless DSL/Cable Gateway Router

Only if you have a WIFI network at home or u can piggyback on someone's else's WIFI, if someone has it on ur block. I have WIFI, u gotta be careful & turn off (the card locator), b/c if it's always on & searching for an avail. network, it's easier for hackers to hack your laptop. =)
