Someone that I look up to told me that you should not base your career moves on "liking" the people you work with. He said they come and they go. What do you all think?

I absolutely agree with him. You have to see the "big picture" and realize there's more to life than being comfortable. If you're happy where you are and feel no need to go anywhere, fine. However, if you're ambitious and see a chance for advancement, take it regardless of who you'll be leaving behind.

I think it depends. Where I used to work, there were about 30 of us. There were some that you liked and some you didn't. You could easily avoid those you didn't. Now I work with 6 people. When there is one person that you don't like (and there is) it makes going to work everyday hard. Sometimes you have to hope that person doesn't make it in or doesn't say anything.

yes, letting others influence your livelihood is not a good move to make. Is there another reason you are unhappy? before moving on, get your ducks in a row as is that person didn't even exist.
