It might not be against the law. But depends on where you live especially the city you won't be able to have one, because it's still considered a wild animal. Check with the local DNR, or go to your town's hall, because you still might have to have a permit to keep it.

PS, also make sure you take it to the vet. Skunks are prone to getting rabies, make sure he has shots before you bring it home.

Yes, there are laws against having a pet skunk in TX. They are classified as "fur bearing animals", and have an 'open' season on them. That means you can kill them and sell the hides, but not collect them from the wild or posess them, for breeding, pets, or whatever reason. Rather redundant, but there are reasons. First and foremost is the fact that skunks can carry rabies and not exhibit symptoms for months.

If you have the facilities for them, the state can sell you a propogation permit to breed, and subsequently slaughter or sell to other fur-bearer breeders. You still can't keep them as pets that way, either, or breed them for pets.

Skunks do make cute lil garden pets, and a tame one doesn't have to be descented. They don't like that smell any more than humans do, and use it mainly for self-defense. If you ever see two skunks fighting, you'll notice that they bite, etc just like cats, and rarely ever spray each other.

We have several skunks that come each night to eat bugs under our lights. They keep down the number of june bugs and scorpions, and discourage wandering dogs, so they are welcome to stay.

I live in TX, and oddly enough my neighbor has an albino skunk. Cutest darn thing too. No there are no laws prohibiting them, but, you must register them with the city, and be current on vaccinations. Just like a cat or dog. Also remember that even though they have been de-scented, they still emit a skunk odor. If you can live with the faint skunky smell, they make wonderful pets.. she is the cutest thing.

No there is no laws against it. Infact there is a whole organization full of people who own pet skunks. Called OOPS (Owners Of Pet Skunks).
