EU immigration could push up local tax bills?

Council tax bills may have to rise to pay for services needed by the growing number of EU immigrants in Britain, the head of the body which represents council chiefs said on Tuesday.

Sandy Bruce-Lockhart, chairman of the Local Government Association, said some councils don't receive enough government money because official figures underestimate immigration levels.

Councils


believe a six percent annual surcharge on tax bills will be needed for the next five years to provide services for immigrant families in some areas, he added.

I agree with Nutsters . Also Tony Blair and all his cronies should be parcelled up with all the immigrants and sent to a far away island.By putting a rein on immigration then it would help with the above problem and also help with the road congestion prob too.When will this crackpot government realise that this little country is FULL.... i think that we get a lot of mixed messages about immigration.

personally, i am more inclined to view immigration as a positive thing for our country. here in scotland we need immigrants to fill the skills gap in some areas and to do the jobs many of us arent willing to do; also our population is getting older. immigration brings economic growth and this report seems to be a bit of scaremongering.

I think you're all forgetting that immigrants come from East European countries to do all the crappy jobs that you're too lazy to do. Once they've got jobs and a home, they'll be paying council tax too.
