Council tax bills may have to rise to pay for services needed by the growing number of EU immigrants in Britain, the head of the body which represents council chiefs said on Tuesday.
Sandy Bruce-Lockhart, chairman of the Local Government Association, said some councils don't receive enough government money because official figures underestimate immigration levels.
Councils
believe a six percent annual surcharge on tax bills will be needed for the next five years to provide services for immigrant families in some areas, he added.
