From what I found, square hoof seems to be the symptom not the problem itself. When a horse hurts one of its front legs (or back), it compensates by putting more weight on the other leg. This means that the hoof on the sore leg isn't being used as much, so it grows faster and gets kind of squarish.

well a square hoof can be different things: in the end stage of navicular the horses hoof will sometimes start to look squarish, did a vet diagnose the problem or did a farrier and if it was diagnosed by a proffesional then i would call them and ask them what exactly they meant.

are you saying that the only gait you can do is the lope or your vet said you could do the walk, trot, and lope?

email me about some more on the horse and maybe i can help you out ofelia_taki6389@yahoo.com

You should seek a experienced horse shoer. I realize there are a million of them out there, but you need to find someone that can do corrective work -- odds are, this will not be the typical local horseshoer.
Does the horse currently have shoes on? Have you tried pulling them and letting them go barefoot for awhile?
If you have gotten a "bad" set of shoes put on, by an inexperienced horse shoer or one that just isn't paying attention, they can tend to cause a lot of problems.. Back soreness, hock soreness, etc.
Imagine that pair of shoes in your closet that give you blisters every time you wear them..

I do not know what a square hoof is, in fact I've never heard of it, but I would definitely have your farrrier out, and if needed, a veternarian.

I hope your horse's problem is resolved soon!

I'm sorry I tried to look up what square hoof was but I couldn't find anything. You might want to call your farrier or vet.
