Some claim that if an announcer does so he or she jinxes the pitcher. What do you think?

Yes they should, but not until after the fifth inning. It's much too early then, if you mention it early I think it is a jinx, but you have to mention it sometime. Michael Kay, a Yankees announcer, is notorious for talking about it too early. He'll routinely say, "perfect through two" and so on until it's over.

Some announcers consider it a jinx, other's obviously don't. Some tie themselves in knots over it... "Well, we've had 8 hits today and all by the ..."

For PLAYERS, it is a HUGE part of the unwritten rules of baseball. You don't talk about it, in fact you don't talk to the pitcher AT ALL. If you see a pitcher with a no-no beyond the 6th inning, check him out in the dugout - he'll be by himself. Nobody wants to be the guy who jinxes a no-no.

True, it is the pitcher who controls what happens, not whether some guy in a broadcast booth says a few words, but this is another one of those fun traditions in the game.

Not unless they want the world pissed at them :)

It's a superstitous thing...Especially with other pitchers. If you mention it outloud, most baseball players believe it will jinx the act taking place.

Those outside baseball, don't understand it...but those that play it, most certainly would never say anything, if a No-Hitter is being thrown.

It's an unwritten baseball rule...you just don't say anything!

Yes, it is okay for any announcer to say there is a no-hitter/perfect game going on.

However, it is considered a jinx if his teammates mention it during the actual process.

They do it all the time. The players can't hear the sportscasters. I've seen several no-hitters and they usually start talking about it around the 5th innings. The jinx is if the players on the bench say anything, not the sportscasters.

The only person who actually ruins a no-hitter or perfect game is the pitcher himself!

no. but sometimes they'll refer to it in a subtle way that something's "going on" for some of the more ignorant fans. it's all superstition but it's sort of like an unwritten rule, nobody's really supposed to discuss it while it's in the works. and if it doesn't follow through you don't want to be the one to blame.
