I am looking at KX250F, YZ250F and CRF250.

I am 27 years old, 6 foot 2 inches and 200 pounds. I am purchasing the bike for a hobby and will do trails and play around on mx tracks...I will not be racing. I am looking for a bike that is light enough for me to manage on the trails (over logs, etc) and capable of handing on the motorcross track (again...not in a racing capacity).

I also want a four stroke because some of the trails are near houses and I want to limit the noise from the bike (2-strokes are LOUD).

Finally, I am new to the sport and would appreciate any comments.

It's the perfect bike for you. I'm 6 ft 200 lbs and ride a YZ250F. Excellent in the woods and on the track. It has more usable power than the 450's and you defenatley don't want to start off on a 450. Too much bike for a beginner. As far as noise goes you will be alright as long as you keep the stock pipe on it. Most of the aftermarket pipes are even louder than the 2-strokes.

In the long run you'd be better off with one of the enduro versions of those bikes. Better suited for woods type use, friendlier power delivery and suspension.

FWIW, unless we're talking about stone stock exhaust systems on the enduro thumpers and play bikes, a four stroke exhaust note will carry farther than a two stroke. For the most part, especially on modified bikes, a four stroke will be louder overall as well. It has to do with the sound frequency and the fact that there are many more moving parts in the thumper.

If you doubt it, just go to any riding area and on the way in roll down your window. You'll hear the thumpers waaay before you hear any two stroke.

For your height and weight, you would be better off with a bigger bike.
