The program (Limewire) itself does not contain any virus...

However, the files that are downloaded through Limewire may/can contain viruses...

Limewire is a P2P (Peer-to-Peer) application, this means that when you launch Limewire whatever you shared when you initially set it up will be seen by everyone else's who use Limewire and run a criteria that match your files. It works like 2 computers connected with each other sharing their files....

There is no server involve, that's why it is peer-to-peer.

Going back to viruses, viruses usually comes from executable (.exe) files and they spread once the file has been executed... So if, you're trying to download a software program, be very careful where and who you download it from.... To be safe, make sure you have an anti-virus program installed and your virus definitions are up to date.

Some executable files comes in compressed files (with these file extensions .zip, .rar, .tar, .jar, .cab, .iso, etc), be very careful when opening such files, because they may contain viruses...

Limewire itself does not have a virus. It is a File Sharing program so the downloads you are doing are from OTHER peoples shared folders all around the USA, so it depends on how careful you are with downloading. You are trusting other peoples' files to be virus-free, so its really the shared files that might have the virus, not limewire itself.

Scam-a-licious? Tons of them? What will people come up with next? No, the program doesn't have any viruses or if that's what you're referring to, no spyware like Kazaa, for instance, used to have and it works very fast unlike, say, Emule. But you may, of course, import programs which contain viruses - that's why you need to always have your antivirus program up to date and always use it before running anything you've downloaded. Personally, I'd recommend Antivir, which is updated very frequently, accurate and free for non-commercial uses.

if you dont want viruses DONT USE P2P programs (example: limewire, kazza, napster, etc) and dont look up porn websites.

avoid those things and you will be virus free ;)
