I was unpacking boxes in our new home. I had a scanner on because we didn't have our dish hookup yet. I overheard the lady behind me, calling her friend and telling her to turn her television on any channel. (Cordless phones) She said, "There! Did you see that plane flying into the World Trade Center?" I quickly got a small television set out of my son's room, tuned in a very snowy Fox channel and watched. Fox took a call from a man who described what floor he was on and in what building. He said he was in a wheelchair and the fire doors were locked. He asked them to notify someone and send help. About 10 minutes later, I watched that very building crumble to the ground. I went into shock and drove to get my kids out of the schools. (If we were under attack, I wanted them to be with me.) First, I went to the grade school to pick up 2 of my sons, and to the high school to pick up my oldest son. We spent the rest of the day at our old townhouse, watching the coverage on our big-screen because we still had cable there. I worried a lot for my husband because he works at a nuclear power plant and the company ordered all but "key people" to go home. He was one of the "key people".

I had gotten out of the shower and was getting ready for work. I had the tv on in the bedroom, like I always do, and suddenly became aware of the newscasters going kind of bananas. So I stopped and watched and listened and basically was shocked at what was happening. It was the most unbelievable sight to watch the 2nd plane hitting the towers. I felt a sense of horror for all the people and sadness for NYC because I have been there many times (many family members live in the state and or city of NY).

I told my daughter who was 10 and didn't really understand the importance or seriousness of the event.

I went to work (at a high school) and put the tv on in my classroom and left it on all day.

It was an incredibly sad and scary day.

I was at school when it happened. This may not be a popular answer, but I was surprised that it had taken so long for the US to be attacked. My second thought was, my god, we are going to go to war here is the perfect excuse handed to the "president". I knew of course that the world would never be the same, and we were all wondering if the attacks would continue. But really, to put that small attack into context with the rest of the world, say what's happening in lebanon , I would say it's time to get over it and stop using it as an excuse.

I was at work and we heard it on the Radio so we did turn the Radio over to a News Channel and did follow the whole story all day while at work and I sure felt like something was going to happen somewhere else. After work, I came home and turned on the T.V. and did continue watching more of the Story until I saw all I could!

I was at school, but nobody told us about it, because we were still in elementary school. My teacher seemed a little crazed I remember, but I didn't know what was going on.
When I got to my babysitter's house after school, she was watching something on the news, and not really paying attention to the kids. I didn't know what they were talking about, and I didn't bother to ask.
My dad sort of told me about it on the way home, but I still wasn't totally sure what he was talking about. But we were listening to the radio, and they were talking about how people in all these other countries were celebrating about it, and I started to cry because I didn't know why all those people hated Americans so much, and I felt bad that they hated me, even though they didn't know me, just because I lived in America.
My parents kept watching the news when we got home, and I just kept trying to figure out what happened. They explained to me that people ran some planes into these really big buildings in New York, and a bunch of people died, but I still didn't get it. I think that as I kept hearing about it on the news, I finally started to understand, but it's a hard thing for a 10 year old to grasp.

I was painting a Bakery that was being built inside of a local Harris Teeter grocery store. We were on break when someone said we were being attacked, so we turned on the radio and listened to the news. I felt like fighting back. I felt amazed. I went home and drank some beer...cleaned my guns....discussed what we might do if we went to war in America....and basically just waited for more news.

I was sleeping- unaware of anything until I was sitting at a stop light on my way to McD's at 2 pm. I was getting irritated because I couldn't find any music on the radio so at the light I actually listened to see what all the talk was about, but at that time they weren't saying what had actually happened, they were just talking about it, so it was a while before I put all the pieces together.

Welding the steam drum at a new power plant in the Philadelphia area.
At first I thought that the guys were just playing some lame joke because we were by the airport and right under the flight path.

But it was no joke...

I just couldn't believe it.

I was at work in Detroit, and we all heard it on the radio. We went to break soon after and watched it on television. We were extremely pissed off! I was angry all day and when I got home and saw the rest of the footage-especially of the people jumping I was very sad, and infuriated at the same time. Then I got drunk!
