This is a long shot.
Get to the National Public Radio website. See if you can find the link to an audio article, by the guy who did the Hanna-Barbera cartoon voices in the 60's and 70's. I wish I remembered his name. The cross references would be the names of the characters, Yogi, Boo Boo, Mr. Jinks, Snagglepuss, Huckleberry Hound, etc.
The audio article describes the learning process for a person who did nothing but voice-overs in a specialized field - cartoons. It described the self-recognition of an interest field, self-recognition of talent, and recognition of talent by others. The article especially hit on two topics, perseverance, and the importance of a mentor.
Find the article / program. Listen to it maybe three times. Take notes. Find a mentor. Persevere.

It sounds like he's envious because he thinks you took something from him: time, adolescents, the possibilities he could've had with different women folk. My suggestion would sound previous shaped, submissive and counterintuitive, yet back off. The more effective you're attempting to get to the bottom of what's happening, the more effective envious he will sense, if that is what he feels. that's nuts, it hurts and that's perplexing, yet you should merely and concisely tell him that you want him, that he's been a good suited chum for the previous 3 years and that you've really been harm with the help of his habit at present. leave it at that. do not call or visit him. stay away from a number of his calls. keep your self busy and word what occurs. I understand you'll not choose your relationship to end this way if that's actual the top. He desires time to imagine about what he's doing, what he's carried out and who you're in his existence. he's for sure drained and is searching for something thrilling, ego boosting and new. let him miss you. reliable success.

Start local. That's what someone once said before. Maybe try some local businesses or the local radio station. Sometimes they may need someone to record ads. You should start that way. I do that for my work. I record commercials and I've done the on-hold message for them, too.
And also, I think when this was brought up here before, someone mentioned taking classes for it. But that would mean you would have to move close to NY or LA or a big city. It's one thing to have the voice, but you also need to have the inflexion, too.

make a demo tape, you cant even get in the door or connect to anyone without it.
if you go to your local public broadcasting station, they may let you do it on weekends or late night.
after that, make LOTS of copies of it, you send it with your resume to radio and tv stations. or agents.
