Barrel racing is fun not too hard if you have a good horse that respects you and knows the pattern really well. My barrel horse was $10,000. I know your tired of hearing this but its so true ALWAYS WEAR YOUR SHIN GUARDS AND GET SOME IF YOU DONT HAVE ANY I cant tell you how many indentions I have in my legs because my horse took the barrels too sharp and my leg hit.

An expensive horse doesn't always mean good. 10 time barrel racing champion Charmayne James got her horse Scamper out of a kill pen. You need one that is quiet, willing to work and will become faster when you are ready. The main thing is to find that knows the pattern. If you are wanting to buy one ready to win I would say be ready to spend between $5,000-$10,000.

Well I used to barrel race a little. It is challenging @ first but once you get the hang of it. It is sooooo much fun. A really good Barrel Racin horse could cost from 2,000 to as much as 10,000. Good Luck and Have Fun!!!!!!!!!!!!

Depending on what level you want to compete at, will depend on the cost.
The horses you see at the NFR, (on tv) will cost from $10,000-$100,000. (Actually their probably not for sale!)
The average horse will cost from $1500-$10,000 --one you will be able to learn on.
I definatly recommend not "wanting" a horse you will WIN on right away -- unless you're a very expierenced rider, you have to be willing to work your way into the sport. To be good, you don't just jump on and be good, you need to be willing to ask for help and work at it.
I would recommend finding someone in your area that does barrel race and they should be able to help you find a horse that fits you and your budget.

I have and it takes time and effort like anything else.
You have to learn to ride well and teach the horse.
Most people train thier own horses to race.
Many are rescued horses or one bought for cheap. It has very little to do with breed or anything like that and muich more to do with the horses attitude and willingness to work and learn.
