If your water breaks, it will either be a gush of fluid, which will be clear, or may contain a little blood, or it will be a continuous leaking of fluid. It will not look like urine. Contractions feel like strong menstrual cramps. Your stomach will get hard, like with a braxton hick contraction. Once this happens every 5 minutes then you are in labor. Most women's water doesn't break until they are already in labor in the hospital. I was one whose water broke first and it took me a minute to realize what it was. If you are unsure go to your OB's office and they will test the fluid to see what it is. Good luck!!

If your water breaks it could either be a gush or like with my first child it was like I was peeing myself a little at a time. The doctors have a strip test to tell for sure. I had to call them as well because I was clueless. I thought maybe it was my water breaking but I didn't know for sure. As with the contractions they might seem like regular cramps then they will start to become more frequent, not going away, and getting closer together. A lot of women have back labor which will be a lot of pressure. Congrats!!! Hope you have a healthy baby!!!

I have three children, and they were all different. My first one my water broke while i was sleeping, I just woke up wet, but didn't have any contractions for about 5 hrs. later. My 2nd one i had contractions and went to hosp. and they had told me that my water broke and i didn't even know it. ( they said it probably broke while i was going to the bathroom.) And the 3rd one, i went to stand up and i just ran down my leg. And didn't have contractions for a couple hrs. later. Contractions i think just feel like cramps that start of light and get stronger. But i guess every body will feel different. But you will really just know when it is the time. But relax and enjoy your pregnancy and don't worry about it to much. It's really not bad. Having a baby is a beautiful thing. Congratulations.

For some people when their water breaks - its a flood; for others it's like a slow leak. And for still others, their water has to be broken during labor.

As for contractions, they usually start out mild and far apart. As labor progresses they will increase. However, as to how bad they get, it depends on a lot of things - one of which is your tolerance for pain.

Will you know when your in labor? You will have no doubt. If you have any doubt at all, you call your doctor's answering service and ask to have him call you.

My water never broke so I don't know about that part. They say its not uncommon though with your first for it not to break. My contractions were not that bad. I think it all depends on you pain tolerance level. Mine felt like someone squeezing my belly. I went to work the day my labor started and finished up things for my boss. I was in labor for thirty-two hours I really didn't think it was that bad.

First off, lemme tell ya, I heard the same thing about "you will just know", and believe me, I didn't. I ended up driving myself to the hospital, because I was convinced it was false labour, but couldn't get comfortable with this gurgling feeling in my belly, only to have the dr. tell me I was 6 cm. dialated and that they were going to break my water. And the flow of water depends on your position. If you are sitting up or standing, you are not going to have as much water flow as if you were laying down (the baby's head in the way vs. nothing blocking the water's path).

Dont worry you will know!!! When your water breaks it is a big gushing feeling, more than just pee, like a water hose on full blast. Contractions start out feeling like cramps, but they get harder and harder. You will feel pressure almost like something is moving in your lower abdomen. You know, you just do. I had the same fears with my son, who is now almost three. But I knew.
Good luck with everything.

I had all those questions with my first baby. You don't need to overwork youself. Everything is going be to fine with you. From my experience its like a ride inside , the child can keep you busy he / she is so busy getting out afterwards is a beautiful experience.....I would suggest that you take mother's gymnastics to help you. Its a joga gymnastics very helpful for the delievering of your baby and the comfort for you....

your water breaking you'll be soaked. And then when you get up, youll still be leaking.

cotractions start to feel like stop you dead in your tracks really bad cramps and end up as the worst pain! riping out your insides is a perfect example...but you can't imagine the pain...drugs are good.
