I'm a singer/songwriter and quite good...at least everyone that hears me tells me so. I know it's not just the being nice 'you're pretty good', it's the 'wow, that was amazing'. I sound like a few singers out there and do have a band and play places but it's all the marketing crap. Any suggestions on how to get a CD to the right people?

A lot of it is being in the right place at the right time. Get your name out there as much as possible - play as many gigs as you can. Does your local radio station have a "homegrown" show - one that features local unsigned acts? Get on it. Make nice to local venue owners/bookers and see if they'll get you on the bill to any national acts that come thru town. (Clubs are good for this)

One thing I say NOT to do is to approach ANY record label or radio station that doesn't have a homegrown show with your CD. If they even take it from you, it'll go right in the round file. The reason for this is because most of them (probably 99.9%) don't accept unsolicted material - it protect them as well as you.

Keep plugging away and try to get your name out there as much as possible and if you're as good as you say you are, the right people will take notice.

Good luck!

Send in Demos to lots of recording companies that have the same type of music as yours.
