I think you are talking about nitrous oxide. Dentists sometimes use it as an anesthetic, it is a fuel for some race cars, a propellant for canned whipped cream and a cartridged propellant for pellet guns. When a person breathes it, it changes the body's ability to take in oxygen, so it can be dangerous as a recreational drug, especially if you take enough to get unconscious. Nitrous oxide- also known as laughing gas- is the most common reason for death in the dentist's chair. If someone doesn't monitor your breathing closely enough and administer oxygen if you get in trouble, too much laughing gas could kill you. Have fun, but be safe. Nitrous oxide is NOT RECOMMENDED as a way to have fun.

I think you are talking about nitrous oxide too. At least I hope you are. It was used by dentists before as a pain-killer but these days they use novocaine. And it was called "Laughing Gas" with good reason. Ah, so much fun!
No wonder people my generation tried to get hold of it on the street!
But it rarely knocked you out, and came in bottles not in cans ... so it might be something dangerous. If you get the best answer please tell us all!
