YES, it can and has been done, but not on just a regular car engine that runs on Fuel, but specifically made to run on WATER! Now this was invented by a single person that did this in a Farm, he did this so that he can save tons of money by not using it to get fuel and use almost the cheapest thing EVER to run this engine he made. I saw this on Discovery channel about 2-3 years ago! I also saw it on some major news channel I don't know exactly which one! Search for it and I gurantee you will find it!

Hi,
Very good question! The only cars than ran on hard water were the steam engine vehicles, Jay Leno has a few of those. However, I'm not sure if BMW had produced any steam engines before the internal combustion engines were manufactured and introduced to the passenger vehicle market in the 1920s.
Good luck with your search!
Regards,
Mike

If so, it would not be a traditional engine since they run on combustion. Water cannot combust since it is not a hydrocarbon. It can be broken down, which does release the energy stored in bonds so...theoretically, you can run an engine on water.

It's certainly possible, though probably not with current technology. Fuel cell cars might be able to extract the hydrogen they need from it, but as far as i know that technology isn't fully fleshed out (or at least not in major production).

Doesn't sound possible. Extracting hydrogen from water isn't currently reality in a commercially viable form. Maybe they are doing it as some science project?
