I have a big, half sleeve tattoo on my right arm. Living in Japan I have a lot of funny things happen when people see it, but today I had TWO! First I whizzed passed an old lady on my bike and when she saw me she exclaimed to herself in Japanese "wow, a foriegner with a tattoo!" But I mean, she literally screamed it she was so surprised.
Then I was at the Family Mart this evening looking at the dessert section when I noticed someone in my personal space bubble. I thought it was roommate trying to freak me out, but I turned around and there was this guy with his face like an inch away from my arm, studying it intently. I smiled at him, expecting he would say something, but he only continued his study. I looked at his girlfriend, and she just shrugged. Then he walked off mumbling something I couldn't understand to her.
So, what do people do when they see your tattoo?

I have five tattoos and I look like the girl next door too innocent to have done anything, so usually it is a shocked look or a discussion on pain tolerance...My favourite moment was when my father saw my tattoo for the first time (I did not tell him about it as he would have freaked out) so I was running up the stairs at his place and he said it looks like you've got dirt on your ankle and I said nah it's my tattoo and he paused and insisted that I show him so I did he was impressed as I was the artist as well. So when he passed away upon his request I added my 5th tattoo his initials and I always have a reminder of him. Of course the usual comments are I could never do that or you have so many how could you stand the pain or my personal fav is when my 19month old niece grabs my ankle and tries to scratch off the tattoos that I have. The more elaborate ones get looks of awe and wonderment. Enjoy the looks and comments very rare in some cultures for females to have tats but in western society it is more common for females then males go figure.

Actually, handiest precise individuals have the "correct" to have a band accomplished. It's an historical jail factor. If you spot any one with an open band, or barbed twine, they acquired the tattoo for a laugh. If you spot that the band or twine is closed, it way that they have got been to jail, no longer prison however truly jail. The quantity of barbs point out the quantity of years they've spent in jail. I watched a man move to a epidermis head tattoo parlor. He used to be there to get a celeb of David tattoo. There have been swastikas in all places the situation, the tattoo artist had a colossal one on his head (he used to be additionally dressed in laces and braces). The man who owned the parlor had no issues with doing any tattoos for cash. The handiest laws he had have been no speaking approximately faith or politics. The man began correct in together with his political ideals and why he used to be correct and each person else used to be flawed. He used to be warned two times. The man stored walking his mouth, the artist began to run the needles deeper. I suppose he eventually hit bone.

My 80 year old father, from whom I had hidden it successfully for four years, saw it and said: "I could have died a happy man if I'd never seen that." It's a small shooting star on my shoulder - it fits with our last name. He's up there screaming now as I have the family clan badge (which is my son's name) on the other shoulder, and I'm going to add to it to incorporate the 8th Air Force insignia to honor my father. I know he's actually having the time of his (after) life that he taught me to be myself - not what others expected of me.
