I awoke with this thought, combining a 2 and four stroke engine, You would have cylinder ports for either inlet or exhaust and valves for the opposite. I was thinking that you could remove some of the valve train drag while offering more head space for valves. Just thinking about how to build lighter more efficient engines, anyone have any ideas or knowledge that this has been tried?

The main function of valves in a four-stroke engine is to close and hold pressure during the compression stroke, and then to open at the proper times during the cycle to allow exhaust and intake after ignition. A fixed, piston operated cylinder port could not be closed to allow the engine to build compression, so your combination engine would not be efficient when operating as a four-stroke.
