I will have my things in storage for several months beginning in Sept. I will be storing mostly furniture and a mattress but also some electronics (TV, stereo, etc). I was planning to use PODS but it isn't climate controlled in this area and that has me a little worried about my things. Will this ruin my stuff?

You are storing your stuff at the right time of the year. Summer heat and humidity tends to take a quick toll on furniture, especially bedding and upholstered furniture. Mildew can set in rather quickly in the right conditions. If you must store those kinds of items, try to allow for air flow around them in order to minimize the chances of damage.

I would not store my items much past late February in the conditions you propose. Up until then, you should be OK.

Good luck with your storage problem.

I would think climiate controlled has a reason. Variation of extreme temperatures cannot be good for furniture, especially those made from real wood. And, without the climiate control all that moisure is going to stay in the container and you will end up with mold on many things, ruining them.

I would pay the price and get a climiate control storage if I were you.

My sister had a bunch of her stuff ruined when she stored it in Texas, where it I imagine it is less humid than Virginia, but hotter.

Ask them if they have any insurance or have advice on how to protect your possessions.

I was always told that humidity will ruin or warp wood furniture.

I'd splurge for something with climate control...or sell your furniture.

Richmond is humid!
