I was 8 years old. I was home when it came over the news. I barely even knew who he was.
I remember my mother being extremely upset about the whole thing and then had me go across the street to let those people know that he had died if they hadn't heard. They didn't care - were not the fans my mother was.
I am in USA

I was 27 years old and in a doctor's waiting room. My husband had had an appendectomy and was in for aftercare. The radio on the receptionist's desk was on and I heard the news. People in the waiting room kind of looked at each other and didn't say much or really react.
I was kind of shocked. I'd never been a huge Elvis fan (was more into CA bands and English ones at that time). But it made me sad because of course it meant the end of something.
I live in CA in the U.S. After he died, I started reading about him and listening more closely to his music and began to really appreciate his talents. He was one of a kind, definitely.
When you said, 'what else do you remember?' do you mean when other stars died? Because I remember when John Lennon was murdered and how that deeply affected me. I was watching ABC Monday Night Football when Howard Cosell came on with the news. I was extremely sad.
And of course...I remember when JFK was assassinated. I was in 9th grade in the school auditorium in acting class. We were rehearsing a play when a teacher came running in with the news.
That was a huge day. We all returned to our classes and the principal made an announcement over the intercom and asked for a moment of silence. My mom, grandmother and I were glued to the tv for the whole weekend and saw Jack Ruby kill Lee Harvey Oswald.
Such sad but amazing memories...

Funny. I remember my sister's first day of school in September, 1976. I remember my first day of school in September, 1977. But, I CAN'T remember Elvis dying in August, 1977. I don't even recall anyone talking about it on my first day of school.
I guess that's because nobody in my family or my friends were Elvis fans.
Later in life, I remember thinking Elvis had died in the '60's, and when I learned he died in 1977, I thought, "No way! That recently!!??"

I had just turned 7 and it was a hot summer here in the UK. I read about it on the front page of my Dad's newspaper. It said the King was dead. I thought that was odd because we had a Queen and she had just had her silver jubilee.
I didn't really know who he was, but later that year, the BBC showed loads of those crappy films he made in the 60s. I thought they were brilliant!
