the term "Please" means a "polite request" so they are asking you not to smoke when someone asks you to do something you have a right to say,"No." Isn't that correct?
I don't smoke, I just used this because it is the most common form, it could also be, "Please no talking" for all I care. I am just interested in how have the word Please in it affects the legal aspect of the sign.

It depends. Like Please give seats to handicaped, elderly or pregnant. it is being polite and considerate and giving a heads up that if a pregnant women comes on bus and there are NO seats left that you might be asked to move for her. BUT
in Please do not smoke. or Please do not park. it is a curestesy and they are not requesting as in if you want to you can but please dont. They are politely telling the public not to smoke.

So yes it is legal..

Please no talking is curtesy for the enviroment you are in and is probably a rule not a law where you are. also a curtesy to others...

It depsns where you are and what it says..
NO means NO and is being blunt please is more polite.

Jesus never commanded that anything be written down. He did command us to Love God and Love our neighbor. The Bible Alone doctrine is a man made doctrine, not found in the Bible. Go Figure. The Bible does teach: 1 Cor 11:2 hold fast to traditions I handed on to you. 2 Thes 2:15 hold fast to traditions, whether oral or by letter 2 Thes 3:6 shun those not acting according to tradition Jn 21:25 not everything Jesus said recorded in Scripture 2 Peter 1:20 no prophesy is a matter of private interpretation Rom 10:17 Faith comes from what is heard. Mt 16:19 Peter given you keys of the kingdom; power to loose or to bind Jn 21:17 Peter given Christ's flock as chief shepherd Acts 15:19 Peter pronounces first dogmatic decision Gal 1:18 after conversion St Paul visits chief Apostle Acts 1:13-26 Peter heads the election of Mathias as Apostle Finally Eph 2:20 Church IS built on the foundation of the Apostles.

The word please has nothing to do with the legal ramifications of the posting. They are just being polite and using some western common courtesy. So many don't understand what that is any longer. Hopefully you are not one of them.

I have always favored signs that say "If you smoke around here I am going to shove your cigarette into your eye socket". Just to make the point clear

I think they are just being polite. It still means you can not smoke.

I think PLEASE just trys to make it into a friendlier way of saying NO ____. Notice how if the word "please" wasnt there, it would still say "NO SMOKING", but imagine how scary restraunts and other place would look with NO SMOKING all over the place. I think putting PLEASE is just more polite.

It's like when a police officer says "please step out of the car" or "please put your hands behind your back".

The please is being polite. It doesn't change it from a demand to an optional request.
