There was a time when the UN mattered. The corrupt career diplomats made sure that the UN would become so marginalized that they are a joke. When NATO, a military organization, accomplishes more humanitarian projects than the UN, you know something is wrong.

The UN has such a pro-European Union, anti-American stance it is laughable. They follow the pro-European stance of fiddling around in Africa without affecting change, while ignoring the Western Hemisphere.

The UN is no threat to the US, but it does cause a lot of animosity towards the US. But the short answer to your question is that even is they wanted to take away our sovereignty, they cannot, they are too marginal to have any effect on the US. And right now if the US were to withdraw support for the UN it would cease to function.

Umm. . hello!! Yeah!! They already now own Yellowstone National Park and some others (Bill Clinton gave them away to the UN/international community while he was president).

That's also what the Kyoto Accords are all about (that's why Bush wouldn't sign them).

He didn't sign them because of anything to do with supposed "global warming", but becuase in the Kyoto Accords were several requirements that we give up our sovereignty to the international community, and also that we wouldn't even be allowed to discipline our children!

They want to dictate how we raise our children here in the US. That's why lack of information is such a dangerous thing. All these Americans are thinking that the reason GW didn't sign the Kyoto Accords was that "he hates the environment", when the real reason is he doesn't want to surrender US sovereignty to some idiot "global community" that doesn't have a clue about how to raise children.

That's also why it's to dangerous to get your news from the major news media alone, because they only report what they want to, and they agree with the UN's goals (a "world community" without borders, [ no wonder they don't report the nightmare situation with illegal immigration ].

No,how could it?You are a member,You have a permanent seat in the security council. No resolution can be passed without your consent, you have a veto to block every decision you don't approve of.
The only way the UN can take your sovernty. away is with your consent.
I don't see that ever happening,do you?

no. what makes you say so?

i'm not asking that you prove it to me... but i don't see that at all, and i wonder why it is that you think it. what leads you to ask this question?

i am not unnerved by the concept of a world government. i actually believe it is inevitable. i think leaving the u.n. would be giving up a seat at the round table. nations must deal with each other, and i want more bodies looking at how that happens. the wto is not enough, there should be a way for the countries of the world to come together to discuss things of global importance. i think it is obvious that the european union was formed as an answer to the united states... humans always seek alliances. there should be a venue for all of these alliances to discuss mutual concerns.

i do not think involvement in the u.n. means we give up sovereignty, it just allows nations to confront each other somewhere besides the battlefield. it is an experiment i think we should observe a little longer. it's not like we can't tell them to f-off if we don't like their decisions...

That's total BS.

Every time the UN passes a resolution someone here doesn't agree with we get the same BS claim.

Every other self-serving political leader in the world makes the same claim every time a UN vote goes against their agenda.

Oh, yes indeed! And don't forget, the democrats do to. They are all for selling us out, to the illegal immigrants, to the terrorist (they don't want to fight for our freedoms -- If we leave Iraq too early, they will just become another terrorist country.) They want to take away our freedom of religion, Just look at the ACLU - a democratic organization, They wanted to take Christmas away from us last year. What are we comming to? It's scary.
