A power of attorney allows someone to act in your name, as your agent, and to sign documents on your behalf.

If you authorized them to spend money, explicitly or implicitly, then that would be within scope of the agent relationship. If they acted outside the scope of the agent relationship, or took property (or money) for themselves that they were not entitled to have, then you might have a civil cause of action for conversion, or a criminal case for embezzlement.

Whenever your legal rights are at issue, you should always consult with a licensed attorney.
