Actually, that is Marvel's representation of a POSSIBLE future.
Then, the heros need to find a way to prevent it from occurring.
That way, it shows the high stakes they are fighting for.
What else would you have them do? "Oh no, look! The future is perfect so we need to do something fast!" Wouldn't sell. The "possible future" storyline has to show the future as pretty unbearable so the reader understands how important it is for the heros to succeed. Much higher stakes than going after the Juggernaught for knocking over an ATM and therefore more exciting.

Because it sells!! The Civil War comic book is on FIRE! With all the sh*t going on today, people are beginning to relate with the events in Marvel. Don't get me wrong.. I LOVE ME SOME DC comics...Batman...JLA...they rock out loud. But the thing is that people can relate more to the mutants like X men....we all understand how it feels to be discriminated against and left out because you were considered different. But I still have a subscription from both, because I love them both equally.

They have ran out of ideas, i mean there are so many heros and so many stories they just had to go with what the thought was left, but I am a DC fan and really dont care for Marvel anymore.

Yes, but generally the heroes of the present only encounter someone from the future and, therefore, are given a view of the future from someone who has traveled back in time to fix a problem. Why would bishop or anyone else take the trouble to travel backwards in time just to tell the X-Men that everything was hunky dory?

Hate to break it to you, but that is very likely the way that humanity is going. The human race is a kind of self-destructing organism that doesn't realize how destructive its being until its too late.
On the other hand, bleak futures sell. People like seeing the world get f***ed up and then having it brought back again.

Eh, Marvel Comics has sucked the past few years anyways. The X-books are awful, I hate what they did with Spidey, making him a spider god, making Gwen a whore with Osborne, the robot suit. Thank god D.C. still makes good books.

The downber stories SELL!
Who would not love to see Xmen against Sentinals
I think its the major theme at Marvel
Super Powers have some real negative impact on the lives of people
DC always had this shiny approach to super powers

I agree with you, but that's also the same for most movies, tv shows, etc. If you think about every future movie it's either apocalyptic or has some major problem under the surface.

its like the pepsi/coke challenge...never decide a winner cause both serve a purpose. DC is the coke( too sweet in my opinion) and pepsi is marvel (a little kick and more bubbles)
