G-force is from the 1972 gatchaman. the first 5 person power ranger team team was in 1975 called Secret squadren 5 ranger. So the power ranger motif is been around for over 30 yrs.

You talking about Science Ninja Team Gatchaman? A.k.a. Battle of the Planets a.k.a Eagle Riders (here in the States, anyway)?
I suppose Power Rangers owes a lot to Gatchaman in the form of inspiration.
I don't recall anything before Gatchaman that could be similar. Someone did mention Ultraman, but my memory of that show is fuzzy since I was a kid the last time I saw an episode.
However, I think it's a safe bet that all these shows took some inspiration from American superheroes.

I think live action Ultra-Man (the Science Team!!) was the start
5 is a good number for story lines and merchandising
