I have to agree completely with your assertion. I read the cutest story one time, about a preschool teacher, and I thought it illustrated your point exactly. I think the story was in "Chicken Soup for the Teacher's Soul", but I'm not sure.
The teacher had a diverse mixture of kids in her class. She got them together one day, and discussed colors. The "black" kids said they were black, and the "white" kids said they were white. She proved differently.
She took a variety of paint colors, and added the various colors together on the arms of each child to match the skin tone of that child. The kids were no longer "black" or "white", but instead they were specific colors for each kid. One might be "peach, brown, and coconut", while another might be "brown, tan, sepia, peach, with just a dot of orange mixed in". Someone else might be "brown and pink". The important part of the lesson was that each and every child was a unique color, and that no one was black and that no one was white. The kids learned to appreciate the different colors that all mixed together to create the color that was unique to each child.

In an optimistic world you would be correct. In reality, there are many colors - and sometimes mutually exclusive of the other! This is unfortunate - but a fact. Skin shade has nothing to do with it, in many cases, look at the Russian provinces fighting each other. To me, they look the same - but they see a difference and are killing each other because of it.
The first step to solve a problem is to admit there is one. Wake up, and you might be able to help. You are correct, love is the answer - just get out of your denial.

Technically, yes. But people discriminate. They always will. And in part, that's their job. People are supposed to do that. It's one of the pillars of logic and reason. We put red things with red things. Blue things with blue things. Socks go in the sock drawer. Shirts go in the shirt drawer. B things get filed with B things and A things get filed with other A things. It should come as no surprise then, that people put into groups, darker skinned people with darker skinned people. The trouble starts when people focus too much on superficial qualities and forget that people fit into larger groups. If you want to get along racially with other people, you can't focus on your differences. If you do, it only serves to drive people further apart. If you want them to act like a single group, you have to focus on what they have in common so they will have a reason to group themselves together. For instance, if they would take the time to talk about it, a white and a black woman would discover they both love their children. This is something they have in common. Suddenly they discover they come closer to fitting into the same group – mother's who love their children. If they investigate further, they will discover all kinds of things they have in common and it allows them to better group themselves in the same category. If you do this long enough, in the same way that it makes sense to put brown socks in a draw with blue socks simply because you realize they are both pairs of socks, then you can put white people in the same group with brown people because you realize they are both people.
The key to getting along isn't pointing out your differences, but realizing your similarities. Unfortunately, as simple as that may sound, some people have a hard time getting that through their thick skulls. I watch them all the time. They get on news shows or talk shows and the first thing they do is start talking about their differences. This does not help matters. It only serves to drive them further apart. If you want people to get along; if you want people to only see shades of brown, then you are going to have to focus on something other than the shades of brown.

Well, I don't know about you, but I know a few people who are as 'white as a ghost!' Most people are shades of brown though.

there is no black, white, yellow, whatever.
there's just the human race. Until people realize this racial tensions will continue to exist.
Furthermore..
There is nothing wrong with being proud of your race, your color, your creedo, whatever..
But people have to realize that THEIR race is no better than any other race.

Sorry, I disagree. There is great pride in heritage and race. I know many whites and blacks who celebrate their ethnicity and are very proud of who they are. And there is nothing wrong with being proud to be white or black or any other race you might be.
