And a day without impossible riddles would be like a bladeless knife without a handle. Or a BLT with no meat, vegatable or bun. Or a TV dinner with no dinner OR TV. Or a me without a you.

This goes out on Beauty and Style for reasons casual to the most obvious observer.

yeah, almost. only about 3/4 of the way though. But let's not include the "me without you" one. My heart breaks just thinking about that. *sniffle* I NEED YOU WITH ME! My life is incomplete without you!

Oh yeah, and Fred? I'm so sorry, but I had to leave on my lunch break. I tried to come and see you, but I got stuck in traffic and had to turn around half-way there! Can you ever find it in your heart to forgive me?!? Please, PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME!!! *dramatically falls back onto the bed sobbing*

A simile is a figure of speech in which the subject is compared to another subject. Frequently, similes are marked by use of the words like or as or so. "The snow was like a blanket". However, "The snow blanketed the earth" is also a simile and not a metaphor because the verb blanketed is a shortened form of the phrase covered like a blanket. A few other examples are "The deer ran like the wind", "The raindrops sounded as popcorn kernels popping", and "the lullaby was like the hush of the winter."

The phrase "The snow was a blanket over the earth" is the metaphor in this case. Metaphors differ from similes in that the two objects are not compared, but treated as identical, "We are but a moment's sunlight, fading in the grass." Note: Some would argue that a simile is actually a specific type of metaphor. See Joseph Kelly's The Seagull Reader (2005), pages 377-379.

The answer to your question is no. A simile isn't a metaphor.
A simile is saying something is like something else, when it really isn't. A metaphor is saying that two different things are the same.
Simile: Men are like pigs.
Metaphor: Men are pigs.

As for the rest, you have way too much free time on your hands.
