Islam is bedouine tradition, distilled from a slow stewing of semitic, persian and greek ideaologies, and then double fermented with centuries of expansionism and religious imperialism. But, and the big rub is, that when you had the chance for a reformation and a little bit of cultural transition, you buried it.

We in the west opted for market forces and liberalism , and threw in humanism to make sense of it all, and you guys stayed buried underneath godly fear.

In Britain, we are a liberal democracy, thriving on freedom of expression and individualism, and all though we moan about it, it's the best country on earth. We do roughly what we like, when we like, and contrary to muslim opinion, we are actually some of the nicest people about. Even when a few of get together and throw bombs about the place, we try to figure it out and be nice to you....

so...our girls like short skirts, we like a beer or two, gays run our country ... if muslims don't like it, go live in Iran!

gosh ure brave - let me know how long before some wee bigot reports u for this! I totally agree with you - we are forced by law to be tolerant of those with a fear based primitive religion who come here and do what they like. Muslim communities wanted christmas banned do u remember that? Come to the west if u want to throw the shackles of the Ayatollah off your neck, otherwise stay where you are.

Freedom of choice? Not a bit - The many Wars and conflicts we a a country have fought along side Europe and America were for the freedom to choose FREEDOM- not for these muppets who choose enslavement to nomadic doctrines and then try to change our hard won way of life to fit in with their obselete and tyrannical culture. And as for peaceful muslims - no sympathy. If intelligent and compassionate people define themselves by their religion, and remember that it is a religion, not a race like the jewish culture, then they are not as intelligent as they would like to think. They are part of a global religion tied to extremist ayatollahs. If they dont like it, they should remove themselves from their clutches which would dilute the power these lunatics have.

Same reason fundamentalist Christians are so determined to get their way, at all costs. But Christianity has had longer to get it right.

Remember that Islam is about 700 years younger than Christianity. So, compare Islam now to what the Christians were doing between 1200 and 1500. You've got the Crusades, the Inquisition, the Dark Ages in general.

Islam is going through its teen age years, and like most teen agers, they are starting to rebel and act out. Given them until they reach 18 or 20 centuries, and it should be down just a few incidents per year.

Granted it may be a rather large majority of them, but many true Muslims woudl ratherlive a quiet peaceful life and lead by example rather then by fundamentalism. It is sad to think, the nutsy ones are the ones leading the pack and the true Muslims live in fear, not being able to express their ideas. Even worse, most do not have the opportunity to not follow the crazy nuts, if they go against the group, usually the group kills them and their families.

my opinion on this has been shifting... i have come to realise of late that West is not as liberal as it claims itself to be and not all Muslims are Muslim zealots who hate Western values... sometimes i encounter Muslims who are far more advanced in their thinking than average thinking Europeans i encounter.

I think the present generation of Europeans has had it too easy... they did not have to struggle for the values that their forefathers struggled for, while their reasoned counterparts in the East struggle to get their freedoms and have a definite goal ahead of them.

Cant u reflect on how West is worse than medieval in its foreign policy and moronic when it comes to the impending ecological crisis?

I think muslims do not have short-skirted girls so as not to be fingered in the sub-ways - and ultimately, each Muslim knows his real father. NO MUSLIM wishes to be a son of a gun.

i am a buddhist i am english and i have found that it is not just muslims who CAN be like this you will find that it appiles to most people who adhere strictly to one religion it is human nature when we think we have found the answer to something we immediately think that everyone else must be wrong muslims can be intolerant (very important to say not all are) catholics christians and jewish people can also be like this religion really is only a tool for controlling the masses!
