1946 Apr 25, A train crash at Napierville, Illinois, killed 45-48. The "Exposition Flyer" was rammed.

1946 Nov 23, French Navy fire in Haiphong, Vietnam, killed 6,000.

1946 Dec 7, A fire broke out at the Winecoff Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia, killing 119 people, including hotel founder W. Frank Winecoff.

1947 Mar 25, A coal mine explosion in Centralia, Ill., claimed 111 lives.

1947 Apr 16, The French ship Grandcamp, carrying ammonium nitrate fertilizer, caught fire and blew up, devastating Texas City, Texas. It was America's worst harbor explosion. Another ship, the Highflyer, exploded the following day. The final death toll was 576, and more than 3,000 Texas City residents were left homeless. Property damage ran into the millions.

1956 Jul 7, Seven Army trucks loaded with dynamite exploded in middle of Cali, Columbia, killing 1,100-1,200. 2000 buildings were destroyed.

1956 Jul 25, 51 people died when the Italian luxury liner Andrea Doria sank after colliding with the Swedish ship Stockholm in 200 feet of water 50 miles southeast of Nantucket Island, Mass. The Dorea was headed from Genoa, Italy, to NY.

1957 Jul 14, Soviet steamer "Eshghbad" sank in Caspian Sea and 270 drowned.

1957 Sep 29, In Montgomery, West Pakistan (later renamed to Sahiwal, Pakistan), an express train collided with stationary oil train and 250 people were killed.

there was a bad hurricane in the 50's named Carla that did much damage to Texas and to if places far inland. I am not sure about any other disasters during this time period

One big one: The US became a dominant superpower. Thats the one you should focus on. Got to love US backed military dictatorships, US backed murderous rebels, US embargos that starve innocent children and civilians, US military interventions that kill innocents, US backing of Israeli state terror, US state terror against "communist" (often merely left of centre governments that overthrow opressive US backed 'democratic' governments) governments. The rise of the US was one of the worst events in Western history, period. I am not a communist or an Islamist.

London was fire bombed.

Dresden was fire bobmed.

The Soviets lost 18 million people to the war and starvation attributed to the war and clsoed supply channels.
