I’ve been on the pill for 6 years and want to come off it. Me & my husband want kids but not so soon. How long do I have to be off the pill before this to happen?

You could get pregnant right way, it could take months! Really, getting pregnant is a "crap shoot" (like the dice game craps), you can never really predict it. You ovulate 14 days after the start of your period, and then have a 24-48 hour window of fertility "Doing it" every day can reduce his sperm count, but the little guys can live for up to three days.

My friend was on the pill for about the same length of time you were. She has been off the pill for about 2 years now, and cannot get pregnant. She thinks that being on the pill for so long may have messed her chances up.

I also have another friend that took the pill since she was like 16 or 17. She got off of it at the age of 24 and it took her 1 year to get pregnant. Everyone is different though.

They usually recommend waiting 3 months before you start trying to make sure all of the hormeones are out of your system but I didn't wait when I was younger and ended up pregnant the first month with twins. . go get a book called Taking Charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler. It will help you understand your body and all the myths about it. It will help you time when you are ovulating and the best times to conceive. My Doctor recommended it to me and after 1 year of trying I got the book. It worked the very next month. It turns out that my timing was wrong due to mis-information. I hope it helps you, too! It's not only about getting pregnant. It's about knowing your body and knowing when you are fertile or not. You can pick and choose what you do with your info. Good luck and don't listen the all the myths!

I got pregnant right after I stopped taking the pill. I had my period after the placebo pills, then my next one never came. They estimate I got pregnant a week or a week and a half later. My doctor said it usually takes 3-6 months after stopping the pill. Good luck!

Even when you haven't used the pill, it can take months and months and it doesn't mean anything is wrong.
