I read that the boyscouts are in trouble for descrimating against gay men who want to be leaders.

My question is what would a gay man want to do such a job and wouldnt they expect people to be a little concerned. Why would a gay man be so focused on being in the care of young boys out in the woods alone? WOuldnt you feel the same about a straight man who wanted to run a teenage girl cheerleader camp?

Now before you rant on how ignorant this question is, if you were a parent would it matter to you if your suns scout leader was gay? Or how about your priest and you wanted your son to be an alter boy?

I know this question is totally un PC so please save your sermons about how bad it is? Either give your opinion or ignore it.

Gay does not mean pedophile. There is a huge differance, and statisticly more straight men are pedophiles than gay men. I wouldn't care one way or the other about the sexual orentation of the leader of my child's troop. I myself went to girlscout camp when I was younger, and there were several male counselors. As long as background checks are run and care is taken to not hire any suspicious individual, no matter their sexual orentation, there is no problem.

Why is it any stranger than a straight man being so focused on caring for young boys in the woods alone? Or for that matter, if a woman was in charge of an all-boy camping group, would you worry that she was going to molest the kids? The fallacy in your question is the notion that gay men are driven entirely by sexual impulse, even when dealing with children.

I don't have children, but if I did it wouldn't bother me at all for them to spend time with gay adults.

This one battle a gay man should logically give up on. Logically how many parents would feel comfortable with there children with a homosexual supervising them? Even if the person has no want to do something of that nature, it would be naive of a parent to leave a child in what would be a questionable situation. That's similar to leaving a child with the uncle that has molested children or a child and a teacher who has slept with students....not a great look for the parent.

not a bash on the gay man...just put yourself in the same situation as a parent...as a parent I'd be weary of any and everybody let alone a gay man

It makes sense to me that any man who found value growing up in the Boy Scouts and who is motivated and has the time and energy to help others would offer to be a scout leader.
Please stop equating all gay men with pedophiles. The majority of adults - gay and straight - are not in the least bit attracted to children. We have thousands of adults helping children in every facet of life - as parents, teachers, counselors, etc. A few, unfortunately turn out to be bad, most are in it because they truly want to help.

Why would it be odd? Straight men want to be Boy Scout leaders too! Just because they enjoy being around and teaching children doesn't mean that they are pedophiles! Most pedophiles are straight by the way!

Its not any odder than a woman being a Scout leader. I wouldn't care if a leader was gay. Being gay doesn't make a man a pedo.

However, its wrong to sue the Scouts because you don't meet their criteria.

Just because they are gay doesn't mean they are child molesters.
