I think at its time the Stanislavsky method seemed foreign to actors. But subsequent years of exposure top the many actors who successfully applied it makes its application more easily comprehended.

The sort of naturalism he sought to nurture has become a standard for many other teaching methods.

In my opinion, no single acting method is any better than any other. Different actors need to sharpen different skills. Some are automatically into naturalism, and they perhaps need to work on a more synthetic aspect of performance to round out their presentation.

It's a little like the martial arts. Every student thinking their teacher has the better system. But as individuals, the students have their own strengths and weaknesses, and all teachers can do is offer what the student is able to understand. Its always only up to the student.

I would say try out a few methods to see which one suits your acting style best. I was taught mainly Stanislavski in high school but found that I liked the Sanford/Meisner Approach better around senior year.

On your chances of making it big, only 15 percent of all actors in the country act full-time. Don't limit yourself to film. Its not show business, its business show.

Stanislovsky is one of several methods that a young actor shoudl study, a truly well trained actor will have a vast vocabulary and mastering of methods, well beyond one russian guy.
Chances of making a living as a actor are next to impossible, chances of "making it big" nearly non-existent.
Good luck

The S-method is not easy to do, but it takes a lot of hard work and perseverance to have it drilled into your head. It does help you with getting in touch with the character you are portraying.

1. It's more than simple - it's being, not acting.

2. It's more than difficult - it's surviving, not acting.
