Pads. Pantiliners are pretty pointless if you actually need them.

They serve different purposes.
Wear a panty liner when you are expecting your period but don't have it yet. You can also wear a panty liner at the very end of your period. That way you won't spot on your panties.
Wear pads for when you actually have your period.

I do agree with the the first answer. I like panty liners because they are thinner. But with pads they usually absorb more.

pads for heavier days... they are much thinner and more absorbent now then just a few years ago.
pantyliners for light days or everyday... sometimes when you ovulate there can be some discharge that kinda icky on your undies and pantyliners are nice cuz you can just toss em.

Whichever is more comfortable for you, depending on how heavy your flow is. Personally, I use tampons.
