With all these big colleges around it would have to be. I'm not sure but I think I heard that Cambridge, MA was rated as the most racially diverse and accepting town in the US at some point.
Well, in any case, I live 20 miles north of Boston and the city that I live in prides itself in its diversity. I believe MA as a whole is very open minded.
My husband is Vietnamese and he has never encountered anything negative here.

I am from Boston and I think the city is very racially friendly. There are many minorities in Boston & most seem to go about their day without any racial desparities.
As someone said before if you can handle Alabama, & the South .. then Boston & the North will be much easier. I would say that the focus on race in the nortern states is much less than in the south.
COME ON UP! :)

It's not too bad. It really depends on what part you're going to live in..some parts are more tolerant than others. You probably don't want to try South Boston (southie) They don't exctly go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Cambridge is very nice, although not a part of Boston, it's actually just across the Charles River. I assume it's going to be a culture shock either way, coming from Alalbama.

Yes it is friendly. It also depends on how much you can handle. For the most part it is friendly except those few idiots that you find everywhere. Oh yeah if you like the yankees you may have some difficulties. (be prepared for the cold)
good luck on your move =]

Does it matter? It will not be different from any town anywhere. The critical factor is you and how you handle yourself regardless of where you are.
It will be cold though. You will be shocked coming from AL

If you can handle Alabama, you will think that you have entered into a racial wonderland.
