It is a shame that there are so many homeless people out there and as time goes by it will get worse. Or economy is getting to the point where people have to choose. Some people have to chose between a gallon of milk for there kids and a gallon of gas. Some people have to chose to eat or there medications. And the way the rent is these days it's crazy. And no employer wants to give cost of living raises. And landlords just keep raising rents to the point where people cant even live. I do understand there are allot of hard working people that work hard for what they have. And that is cool
but what about the disabled. Or the mother that did not finish school and her husband of 15 yrs just left her. Or the big company that just downsized and the supervisor that worked at the company for 10 yrs just got laid of cause of it.
And all the commercials to help all the people in other countries? What about helping our own fellow man first before we help everyone else in the world. And those poor Katrina victims that are still struggling after it all.
America you really need to look at your own back yard before you help others. I suggest people volunteer at your local church give that bum on the street your spare change instead of saying get a job. Free cycle the clothes you don’t want or need. Give food to the local pantry place for the less fortunate.
I am proud to be an American because I looked in my own back yard and I have help many even though I am disabled with limited income I always find a way to lend a helping hand
Can You?

Ok for those of you who said well if the mom had kids and could not afford to take care of them . HELLOOOOOOOOO did you not read she was married for 15 yrs and her husband left her. what the guy has no responsabilaty in it.and i dont know how much some of you actually think about past lives . but it has happen that women are married for 15 20 or more yrs and the man just up and leaves and all they know is what that man did and took care of and they have no education . yes life is difrent now but not so difrent.
I do my best and hope and pray that all americans do the same.

Listen I care more about the elderly than I do the young mother who had the child. There are lots of people out there that can't have kids that would love to adopt. You need to be responsible for your own actions.
No one said life was easy...some are just luckier and smarter than others. That's called LIFE. As for the businesses that lay-off people...hey that's business - we can't control that. You fall down...get up, wipe yourself off and move on to the next phase in your life. I've lost jobs...and more often than not...there was a reason in my life I lost that job, I found a better one...more money...better experiences. As the old saying goes..."Life throws you lemons...make lemonade".
I volunteer my time always...and I gave over $500.00 to Katrina victims. i think there are a lot more people doing what you wrote about...at some point...people have to be responsible for their own self. I do all of the aforementioned.
Nonetheless...I hear your passion...thanks for the question.

i personally do believe in greater help to the poor, and in some cases, the homeless. but for a good number of poor and homeless, they are homeless and poor for a reason. they resulted to drugs and heavy use of alcohol to take care of their problems. i do believe that care should be given to people, but only in circumstances where the homeless/poor person/people could not have changed why they are poor/homeless. there are also the jobs at mcdonalds to get

i agree with the disabled , but the rest of the homeless simply failed in life , there are many oppurtunitis to take advantage of in this great country and it is never to late . For the mother with the kid you mentioned she shouldn't have had a kid if she wasn't responsible enough to take care of him/her. people need to think of sex as making a child instead of fun and games and ruining a innocent human being's life . as a previous poster mentioned , you can't help them unless they help themselves

It is hard to help those who won't help themselves. All you can do is try. The tax money wasted on foreign aid would go a long way towards helping America better itself.

God helps those who help themselves. With that said, my husband and I contribute regularly to the "alms account" at our church, inner-city soup kitchens, AMVETS, missionaries... I think we do pretty well.
