He will be a lineman. I'm afraid he will get hurt. Is it dangerous?
I don't like football.

Hi,
I played football my whole life, and even got a tryout for a pro team.
He is more than big enough to handle himself at 6ft, 170lbs.
However, if he is going to be offensive linemen, i suggest knee braces or even extra support tensors.
If he is going to be defensive linemen, then i suggest forearm and elbow pads.
Either position I would definitely recommend a neck support brace that goes on the shoulder pads to provide 'snap-back' support for the head.
Otherwise, tell him to play with his heart and mind, and the body will follow! Best of luck.

Alot of times, mothers hear only the bad things that happen to people in football. You should have no need to worry. But if he's 170 pounds and he's a lineman you should have him eat some protein and calcium. Milk and chicken. 170 pounds is a little low for a lineman but, he should be fine.

Do it. Work on Squats, Benching, and footwork (running and cuts). Probably start off as a linebacker/fullback but if you drop weight and are pretty quick you could move to a safety or tailback. It doesn't need to be a lot of weight if you are a healthy 235 (active/muscular), obviously there is probably some weight to be lost but don't try and starve yourself like some of the wrestlers do. I played through jr/high school/college and even with the effort all the working out was, it was an amazing time.

very few players are seriously injured playing football. head and neck injuries are the only real serious injuries that occur while playing . most of those injuries happen when high speed collisions happen. linemen usually have relatively low speed impacts, because their opponents line up right in front of each other. don't worry your son will be fine , driving a car is much more dangerous than playing football statistically speaking.

You can get hurt playing football. You can also get hurt walking down the steps. At least with football you are playing the greatest game ever invented. Your son is a big boy now. Let go and enjoy watching him play.

If you aren't scared of being hit as a football player, you won't get injured quite as often as you otherwise would. If he isn't scared and stretches allot (an by that I mean stretching at least once every two days) the risk of him getting injured will be much smaller.

It is alwaya possible someone will be hurt playing football. It is a rough sport. Try not to worry, and quit bragging about how big your son is.

I think he will be able to handle the pain.

No matter what you do or where you go there is always the possiblity that you can get hurt.

You should let him do something he enjoys. He will spend more time doing that then going out and doing something really stupid.

There is always a chance you can get hurt. You can also get hurt walking down the stairs. The chances of major injury are very slim.

He sounds more suited to DB or Safety than lineman.
