i keep getting messages on having low virtual storage. what causes this?

If you meant low virtual MEMORY I can help . . . There is no such thing as virtual storage. You have REAL PHYSICAL storage and it's called a hard drive.

There are 2 reasons why this can happen. NUMERO UNO, you have used up all your physical memory and Windows went to use the memory you have allotted virtually and squeezed it dry. NUMERO DOS, because you did not have enough physical memory and Windows HAD to use your virtual memory, you have it set so low that it ran out of it and therefore you need to increase the size of your paging file in order to correct this problem. Here are some things to check.

1. is your HDD full? Go to My Computer / right-click your hard drive / go to Properties and see what it says. Most likely, you have a lot of junk on their to clean up anyway, so run the clean-up utility and dump that junk.
2. how much memory are you actually using when you are using all the applications, background services, and Window services at once? Hold down on ALT +CTRL +DELETE to open the Task Manager, go to the processes tab and see what's going on with your memory usage. It is also possible you have a virus inflating your memory. If you do not have any kind of protection, I wouldn't doubt the fact that this could be a factor. This is something to look for if you have been the same thing for the longest time and this just happened out of the blue. Check for foreign services running under the processes tab.
3. Go to START / Control Panel / Performance & Maintenence / System / Advanced tab / and click on setting under Performance . . . here you will need to check and adjust your virtual memory settings . . . go to the bottom and click on CHANGE under virtual memory. If you do not have that much physical memory to devote to all your applications, but you do have a lot of space to sacrifice on your HDD, adjust your minimum to 50 above the suggested value and set the maxium about 2000 above that setting. Now you have up to 3.4 GB of virtual memory to work with. Otherwise, if you cannot devote that much, just add 1000 to it or whatever you can. In the meantime, plan on purchasing additional memory. Adjusting your paging file to this size is just a patch. You need more physical memory.

IF YOU TRULY were low on HDD space, Windows would alert with this message: "LOW DISK SPACE" offering to run the Disk Cleanup Wizard or it would load automatically, if that's what it was set at.

If you do not want to delete your kodak folders, go to your local computer retailer and purchase a jump drive that plugs into your USB port. You can get one that will store up to 1 Gb...that is a lot. They are not that expensive, very easy to use. Once you download your pictures, you could go back into your system files and delete what is being stored on your hard drive. This will free up all that space. Your advice given by Denise is very good. What I would also suggest is to run a full 'complete' scan disk and defrag "after you download all your pictures". This will organize your hard drive and also your file access times faster.

Hi, I dont think, running ebay and having lots of Kodak folders should have anything to do with it, unless, ebay is eating all your virtual memory.Try running a virus check or better upgrade your RAM capacity, i guess that should work correct.

i think having a low virtual storage means ur computer cant do many processes at the time. that means ur computer cant handle active programs at once, like when a messenger is open, a media player, a movie/music editor, an internet explorer. thats an example. all these pertains to a thing called RAM, i think,. that is random access memory. which tells you when ur computer is overloaded with active programs. why dont u try running few programs, cos fewer programs, faster performance. i hope im right. just try it. :D

May be your hard disk is near about to be full.So try to delete some unwanted files,folders.Delete temporary internet files, temp files and in the recycle bin.You can zip your files by using winzip which will save your some space of hard disk.

Is your hard drive almost full? If it is you should seriously look at deleting some stuff. If you have alot of pictures saved to your computer, perhaps burning them to CDs would be a good idea.
