becasue then they can be close to their id (ideal self). Ur "id" is what you would imagine as your best, in the best possible real situation. Your ego is the bit inbetween what you are and your id...

I do it to protect myself - not sure if it works.
Others pretend to get themselves ahead, maybe to feel good for a bit, or, to use people.
Generally, we probably all pretend to be what we aren't because we're stupid or want a change.

Because society has put conditions on us by flaunting all the celebrities and there "bought" perfect selves. Many strive for this and the only way they know how is to pretend.

because maybe it makes them feel better . i am unsure of why they do this . but i too have noticed this . with me what you see is what you get , nothing less nothing more . i dont feel that i have to lie to impress people , or play a role to make them happy . to me i live how makes me happy , not how will make everyone esle happy
