It is as complicated as the Mahatma not your Question but the answer so it is better not said than understood.

Somethings are best left alone than digged out so pls allow gandhiji to sleep alone in the middle of one of the world's worst polluted city

Inspiration you asked? it was the next general election vote bank of that time that inspired the samadhi

Biggest damage is people using it as a out of the house eatery where all the plastics and waste food is scattered as though asking the mahatma why you gave us freedom.

Why it was constructed? As future tourist attraction to tell the world Independent India could not keep gandhi alive for 6 months when the british could keep him alive for 60 long years.

Material for construction: It is built by every drop of shame indians could collect.

samadhi is the 8th limb of patanjali's astanga yoga:

yama, niyama, asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana and samadhi.

It roughtly means enlightenment.

The burial spot of gandhi's wife is also called samadhi, but it's outside of pune.

This sounds like some awful professor's idea of a college paper subject or a midterm essay question.
