Someone who, when their home country is in danger, they are willing to defend it.
I get a lot of confusion with this. I am patriotic because I love my country and would defend it if needed. However, I disagree with a lot of things that go on. That can be another definition: Someone who, when they see something is going wrong with their country, they want to change things for the better.
We all want our country to thrive and be a success. Therefore, we are all patriotic. Anyone who questions another's patriotism is sadly misinformed as to what patriotism truly entails.

Patriotism; Animal like behavior.

Long long long ago, people lived in small groups these groups had to defend themselves and their territory their ‘hunting grounds’ from other groups, if they failed to do so the animals they depended on for survival would be hunted by others and their livelihood at risk. So, these groups fought for territorial rights.

Although today there is (in large part) no need to fight for such territorial rights, the leaders of our nations invoke the animal like feelings to defend the groups hunting area in the name of ‘patriotism’ and send people that could otherwise be friends, men that should be making love to the sisters of each other to fight in wars that serve political and/or religious needs. These people must die in wars so that the leaders can stay in power. Patriotism is the impulse to fight and kill at the command of these ‘leaders’ without thought.

Patriotism is not listening to the liberal media's take on what is right and wrong.

Patriotism is knowing that your country isn't perfect, but still be willing to defend it with your life.

Patriotism is not disrespecting a dead soldier because you disagree with the cause.

Patriotism is loving your country, warts an all.

Loving and r-e-s-p-e-c-t-i-n-g your country. We have the absolute best country on the planet. I call myself thehumbleone because I am humbled. I did nothing to deserve the U.S. - I was just born here - as opposed to China, Cuba, ... I do not believe in flag burning. It is not just a piece of cloth. It represents our country and all who died to allow a lot of malcontents to shoot off their mouths.

you can NOT define it in a...well, definite way. i suppose it is believe in your country and standing up for it. not being cocky and saying everyone else's country sucks. that's called immature and majority of america. it is sad what we have let ourselves go to. relying on electronics as neccessities and using many gallons of gas A DAY. we truely believe that we are the best and no one else even compares. that, i think, is the exact opposite. especially as we constantly pollute our world for our entertainment "needs". its selfish and hippocratic

My opinion of patriotism:

Love of country, identity, to the point where you would fight for your beliefs in war or peaceful demonstrations - Love what your country for the direction it is going in and was built on
